I live in Puerto Rico, and for the last week of December, to as of now, we've been experiencing constant chains of earthquakes. It's terrifying.
Last Tuesday an 6.6 earthquake struck our little island at 4:00 in the morning. It's so terrifying to be in complete darkness, and witness everything shake violently. Then the next minute we get alerted for a tsunami, whilts being unprepared. Everybody turning on their cars and leaving for high ground, while my family had our car in the mechanic for repair. No one offered to take us with them towards safety, we just had to run, leaving our pets behind :(

Okay, so I know I'm a v grumpy environmental major rn, BUT
"the 'big one' has been expected, and it's overdue by at least three years" ay mate, the 'Big One' has been said to happen literally every year since like, humanity finally understood that California exists on one of the biggest fault lines in America. I've stopped caring about the Big One because it's been said to happen with every large earthquake. It's like hearing that Yellowstone is "overdue" for an eruption.
That being said, still got some damn good info.

I was in class when we had the 7.0 earthquake in Alaska. Our ceiling tiles fell down, we had an emergency sprinkler explode ext. I got home and my oven and fridge was moved out from the wall, all the mugs fell down (except my favorite one) the TV fell on a football and broke, and my cats were terrified.

Until I got on social media after the most recent big earthquakes it hadn’t occurred to me that there were people who either hadn’t lived in California long enough, and/or weren’t old enough to have been through the Northridge earthquake. Earthquake safety/preparation was always drilled in at home and at school.
