Mob films arent the kind i usually watch, but when its Scorcese, that's a must. I'll admit i prefer the over the top ones, almost comedy-like as Goodfellas and Wolf of Wall street. But the last hour of Irishman worth the 3.5 hours sitting through.
Give some young actors some work you greedy bastards
Too old for this movie - the lot of them - they move old, they look old and it mucked up the authenticity of the story flipping back in time - they are just too old to pull this style of a movie off - plus they look haggard - the makeup only accentuating their aged faces, makes it too hard to believe and my interest flagged because of this. What a pity - should have been made 15 years ago.
An A? I cant be the only one who did not like this movie!!! De Niro was OK. Pesci was good. Pacino was the best and the only character I actually cared about. It's just a bunch of big names and pointless cameos. 3 1/2 hrs of what felt like deleted scenes from Goodfellas or A Bronx Tale. Y'all are talking about the ending?? Johnny Depp at the end of Blow, now that was an ending with bad guy that you could feel for... Sorry, this movie is a C- at best. It was made 30 years too late.
I feel like the dumbest person ever for really disliking this movie. Most of the scenes where irrelevent to the story! Or was it... I mean what is the story? The plot is barrely coherent until the near end of the film, and the pacing is awfull.
The last scene in the irishman was 😭
Look, a sp
The synopsis: Critics are going to praise this movie no matter what it's flaws are because it's Scorsese, De Niro, Pesci, and Pacino. But the reality is it's long, mostly boring, the characters are de-aged but still move and come across as very old, and many of the tough-guy scenes are laughable. I have seen lots of comments about De Niro's scene beating up the store owner. It was cringe-worthy. And then the scene where he shoots the laundromat owner. The guy literally looked like he just laid himself down carefully on the pavement. Not to mention that makes absolutely no sense for De Niro's character at that point. This is not an 'A' movie.
amazing movie and very well done review. u earned a subscriber
I am SO glad I'm not the only person who LOVED Doctor Sleep!!! Every other "film buff" like myself I have talked to hated it.
deniros eyes and the deaging was extremely distracting unfortunately
Same story as Blow.
Hoffas wife looked so familiar. I was trying to figure out what movie i'd seen her in. Then it hit me...This is the woman who doesnt fly without her lucky hat.
I'm a long time fan of these guys. I was really looking forward to the Irishman. It was masterfully done...but boring as all hell. I was disappointed. You get all the guys back and....snoozefest. a very well made snoozefest though. Missed opportunity. Just my opinion.
This movie works because of the insane production, it’s clear they had a lot of money to do it. The content is not the most original, it’s based on historical events. I do have to say that I was interested in what was going to happen with Hoffa because if the mystery of his death. The acting was not amazing more of the same.
The long build up was excruciating. Especially because you kinda know what's gonna happen but you still hope it doesn't (and it does or doesn't happen)
Al Pacino dropping The WOP bombs!
It was disappointing
Am I the only one on the planet to think this film was total shit?A bunch of old geezers playing charicatures of themselves being actors in their 'heyday', that includes the director. Not one of them exhibited the talent that made them famous and all in all it came across like they were doing it for the last chance to make some more cash out of the stereotypical gendre they've made their own. In short, a mercenary venture that results in a totally unmoving waste of time.
I watched this and I haven’t watched goodfellas or any mafia movies before, so I think I didn’t appreciate as much I could have done if I watched Scorceses earlier films.
Was awesome movie
The Irishman tries hard to be a "classic" like "casino" or "Goodfellas" with some scenes that try to be similar, but somehow struggle to have the same impact. I was wanting to love this film and my expectations were severely let down. Puting aside the slow pace, the great cast of my favourite actors (especially in this type of film) just felt flat where it should have been cool. I don't know what went wrong,..script, story, acting, old age! But this film just does not compare to the previous excellent "classics". 4/10
Scorsese will always be the best to me
Made me want to go get the papers, get the papers
It was a remake of Casino and it bored me.
It had nothing to do with Casino at all. Two very different movies my friend.
I just watched it and am I the only one who think the death of Jimmy was kind of anticlimactic? I mean this is what the entire movie revolves around and he got killed unexpectedly in like two seconds. That's my biggest complaint.
Pesci De Niro and the rest are mere shadows of their former selves.
It was SO incredibly boring.
Let’s be honest, it was a shit film.
I don't know why but it kept me hooked the 3 hours long. That's beautiful story telling
The movie is fantastic...... and al pacino is sublime
This was a pretty good film. I probably enjoyed about 65% of it. Unfortunately, it was bogged down by a monstrous amount of expository sequences which at times droned on for what felt like 10 minutes straight. I lost track of the story around the whole Union part so that wasn’t much fun for me. I’d like it a lot more if they release a cut version without 40 minutes in the middle
Brian DePalma???? He exploded out of the 70's? Yeah I mean Carrie was good but to put him on the same level as Spielberg and Francis Ford Coppola seems rather dishonest.
Now Chris, when you were reviewing the prequels didn't you fault them for having a bunch of scenes where people are just "sitting and talking"??? A tad hypocritical on your part.
Was it just me that thought the film was simply boring? And the scene where DeNiro beats up the store owner has the be the worst scene I’ve ever witnessed, he looked like an old, arthritic guy really pretending to kick the owner, and when the owner smashes the glass on the front door he doesn’t even hit it hard, they obviously only did one take and he was meant to go flying through rather than just slapping the glass with his hand.Disappointing
The character are way too old to be playing these partsDeNiro looks like a 75 year old trying to play the part of a 45 year old but looks like a 55 year old guy that really is 75
The long build up pays off, I had no idea it was going to be Frank carrying out the work until he went to pick up Sal.
During the first hour of the movie, the deaging fx was distracting. I'd say the movie really gets his peak in the second half. *** POSSIBLE SPOILERS ***What makes The Irishman great is Frank Sheeran's lonelyness at the end. He gave so much to his mob life and time went by and he lost his family. Most of the Scorsese crime movies end with a rampage of violence, and headshots and blood until there's one last character standing. (Mark Whalberg in The Departed, De Niro's character in Cassino and Taxi Driver for instance). Here in The Irishman we see De Niro being the last man standing while "life" takes care of most of guys he knew. That loneliness vibe at the end though.... Jesus, Scorsese...
Any one else think this movie is boring and overrated?
@Y K i understand all that, didn't feel emotionally connected to any of the characters excluding maybe Pacino's. But ill wait and try what u said
It’s not an action block-buster. It’s meant to be slower and more emotionally impactful. Watch it again in a few years time when you’re in a different headspace and you might be pleasantly surprised.
Everybody has talked themselves into this being a great movie because of the people involved. It is horrible
Not horrible but definitely not great. Lot of overacting, blabbering and just too long.
I couldn't disagree more. This is a masterpiece.
Another overly long cliched mobster movie that should have been left to the late 80’s or early 90’s. it doesn’t matter how many movie stars you have to sprinkle it with, the genre has been done to death. Please stop making these boring repetitive movies over and over.
The guy is bought and paid for... would never sub you.. are you fucking kidding me dude? This movie sucked so bad it’s embarrassing.... go cash your bitch check
Do u know why the film is so great? It's the same like in godfather. The mafia payed much.
That shirt is life
Can we talk about how I felt when Frank’s daughter walks away from him after he waited probably almost 2 hours in line and walked difficultly with two canes just to speak with her, I mean even as a gangster it would kill me deeply if my daughter did that, I’d probably shoot her 😂. But really that hurt me 😞 felt like a 2 hour long picture to me
This was nothing like Scorsese's past classic films this is really just bare bones
I hate to say it but it's pretty bad all I'm going to say is that they tried hard but these guys are way too old now the de aging looked weird especially on Deniro and their movement and body language was off this was a role they should have done like 30 years ago in my opinion Pacino was really the only bright spot of the film but everything else was just boring and uninteresting I just didn't care about nothing in this film or the characters at all it was just very boring honestly
What was the fish thing all about?? Who collects a fish for a friend? What dumbass leaves it in the back seat?
it was taken almost scene by scene and certain sentences were also taken from I heard you paint houses which was a confession of frank Sheeran in the years just prior to his death
The fucking pauses and zooming in on facial expressions made the film. The silence and acceptance of certain scenes made it, it is what it is.
Just imagine that Chris gave this movie and Uncut Gems the same score. Let that sink in for a moment. If you want to experience Uncut Gems, just get really drunk and don't drink any water. The next day is Uncut Gems. Same score.
I loved Doctor Sleep Chris,its a good adaptation!!🔥🔥
You really need to do a spoiler talk for this Chris
My favourite part was the end credits, what a load of shite
This was utter, utter rubbish.
Loved the movie. Everyone including the supporting cast was brilliant but Pescis performance stole the show. He pulled it all together.
the ending was total shit, it brings the rating down to a 2/5 stars, ruins the whole movie...all the mobsters went to jail , got old, and died; the relationship between the irishman and his daughter goes down the toilet and she never forgives him, even on christmas, what a bitch; the irishman dies old and alone , pathetically; his wife dies of cancer; hoffa's family don't even get any closure; I mean, I know it's supposed to be based on a true story but come on, it's a movie , change the ending a bit , it's too depressing. ....but if you turn it off right after hoffa gets killed, it's a masterpiece, worthy of 4/5 stars rating! :D
Anna paquin barely spoke in the film. The older sister had at least one good and sad scene with him but not her!
Not only did I like goodfellas better but I like casino better. I also liked the movie Hoffa better than this film 🎞 also!
