Great summary from the Spongebob Wiki (spongebob.fandom.com/wiki/Krabs_vs._Plankton):
A depressed Plankton wakes up and goes to the Krusty Krab one morning without a plan to steal the Krabby Patty secret formula, telling Karen that he will "wing it", not knowing what he might get himself into. When he goes inside, he slips on the floor where SpongeBob just mopped and is ridiculed by Mr. Krabs. Two customers observing the incident comment that there should've be a wet floor sign and that they would sue Krabs for everything he possesses if that happened to them, including the Krabby Patty secret formula. Plankton then pretends to be badly injured and, after paramedics come and pick him up, Plankton threatens to sue Mr. Krabs unless he gives him the formula, but Mr. Krabs angrily refuses.
Fearing that he will lose the case, Mr. Krabs hires a lawyer named Richard A. Bottomfeeder, who tells him that he will not charge him anything unless they win and that they will counter-sue Plankton for everything he owns. Later, in Mr. Krabs' office, SpongeBob wants to read his testimony speech to Mr. Krabs. However, Mr. Krabs declines SpongeBob's testimony and tells him that he could be more of a liability than an asset. Unfortunately, as they prepare to leave for the court hearing, Richard slips and falls, breaking his back. He gives SpongeBob his briefcase, saying that they only need what's inside the briefcase to win the case. SpongeBob takes Richard's suit and arrives late to the trial, dubbing himself "SpongeBob LawyerPants" to Judge Stickleback.

I get asked a lot about whether being a practicing attorney is like being a lawyer on TV. I love watching legal movies and courtroom dramas. It's one of the reasons I decided to become a lawyer. But sometimes they make me want to pull my hair out because they are ridiculous.
Today I'm taking a break from representing clients and teaching law students how to kick ass in law school to take on lawyers in the movies and on TV. While all legal movies and shows take dramatic license to make things more interesting (nobody wants to see hundreds of hours of brief writing), many of them have a grain of truth.
This is part of a continuing series of "Lawyer Reaction" videos. Got a legal movie or TV show you'd like me to critique? Let me know in the comments!

LegalEagle I would love to see your take on the "Psych" TV show episode "Cloudy with a chance of Murder". It's an awesome episode but I see many things that you would probably find questionable particularly in the way the shows protagonist inserted himself into the murder trial premised on the show.

Hey legal eagle, I have a question about the lawyer fees at 7:00. A few years ago my dad was getting sued for property that he owned. We ended up getting a lawyer and they took care of the issue but it took about two years. The whole time my dad asked him how much will he owe him and the lawyer said don't worry about it. We ended up winning and the title company should have been paying the cost? In the end the lawyer wanted more money like about 12,000$. Is this even right?

It wasn't intentional, SpongeBob just forgot to wipe off the excess standing water from where he last mopped. It's Patrick in "Big Pink Loser" levels of lazy, but it's not malicious in any way.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on the premise of Rex is not your lawyer. It was an NBC Dramedy series that would've starred David Tennant if they didn't cancel it on arrival in 2009/2010. Basically, Tennant played a Littigator named Rex Alexander who after years in the courtroom, started having panic attacks so he teaches his clients to represent themselves in court. It would've co-starred Jane Curtin as his mother, Jeffrey Tambor as his therapist, Abigail Spencer (How I Met your Mother and This Means War) as his fiancee and Jerry O'Connell as his best friend.

Well, they would inside the stomach of a whale. And that says a lot considering Krabs has raised a Whale for years now. Her name's Pearl, she's 16 as of 2007 I think and she's pretty good. Also, on SpongeBob being a liability, he actually only be that when what he has to say about Krabs is said at that cheapest krab convention. Basically, SpongeBob couldn't say a bad thing about him so it ended up costing Krabs the win.

  • TennantJunkie1993
    TennantJunkie1993 20 годин таму

Unfortunately, Krabs is too cheap to buy one. Or he'll probably just use Squidward, he's the perpetual punching bag at the restaurant on the show. Don't believe me? Some examples are "The Masterpiece", a new ep where Mr. Krabs tries to kill him so his paintings become more expensive, "The Splinter", "SpongeBob, you're Fired", the list goes on.

  • TennantJunkie1993
    TennantJunkie1993 21 годину таму

Oh yeah. Plankton has been trying to do it canonically on the show, to Mr. Krabs's memory, over 30 years. And then the Krusty Krab celebrated a weird anniversary number in 2011 and it just got confusing and what not.

You keep pointing out that Mr. Krabs must act "as a normal restaurant owner does", but clearly putting out a wet floor sign was once not a "normal" practice. Does that mean the legality of the situation can change simply because hipster restaurant owners started putting out signs and it caught on eventually?

My wording/language may be a bit off here because I have 0 legal experience but OBJECTION: In this video, you mentioned that Plankton would likely be held liable for damages in most states as a trespasser. However, there is nothing about his behavior that suggests that he is in fact a trespasser and not an invitee. He enters through the front door of a restaurant during business hours, suggesting that he intends to dine at the establishment.
